2024 was the first annual Salt Spring Lunker Derby, presented by Moby’s Pub and Cassette Cafe and Dive Bar. The one day Lunker Derby was a massive success raising $20,000 for local recreation and salmon enhancement while also giving away $20,000 in cash and prizes for the anglers.

The 2nd annual Lunker Derby hopes to raise over $25,000. We will continue to donate funds to charities and societies or projects that benefit the future of the community and support a healthy and vibrant upbringing for Salt Spring kids.

This years derby will donate proceeds to the Island Stream and Salmon Enhancement Society and Salt Spring Island Minor Baseball Association.

Island Stream and Salmon Enhancement Society is volunteer run and has been in operation on the Gulf Islands since 1987. Their work includes stream and creek rehabilitation work and operation of the Cusheon Creek Hatchery to ensure healthy fish populations for the future.

The Lunker Derby will also be donating funds to the Salt Spring Island Minor Baseball Association. The funds will be used to purchase amenities that support the “Hydro Ball Fields” improvements. These amenities should benefit SSI Baseball, SSI Girls Fastpitch, soccer leagues and adult slo-pitch.
